Contaminated Baby Formula Recalled
Certain powdered infant formula products have been linked to dangerous bacterias, including Cronobacter sakazakii and salmonella. Similac, Alimentum, or EleCare powdered infant formulas manufactured by Abbott Nutrition’s Facility in Sturgis, Michigan have been recalled by the manufacturer, Abbott, due to ongoing investigations by the FDA.
Dangerous Bacteria Found in Abbott’s Facility
The FDA reported on February 17, 2022, that several environmental samples taken at the Abbott facility in Sturgis, Michigan, tested positive for the Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria. The FDA also found internal records documenting environmental contamination with the same bacteria.
Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella Newport infections
- Severe, life-threatening sepsis
- Meningitis
- Gastrointestinal illness
- Fever
Baby Formulas Involved in Recall
Similac, Alimentum, or EleCare powdered infant formulas where:
- the first two digits of the code are 22 through 37; and
- the code on the container contains K8, SH or Z2; and
- the expiration date is 4-1-2022 (APR 2022) or later.
